Dementia carer (currently nights)
|
I have been working in a nursing home since becoming a carer with dementia patients, however I think working with someone in their own home would be more suitable for me. Before I became a carer I helped a neighbour with day to day things after his wife had died and was by his side until the day he died too, being with him for so many years pushed me to get into care, he always told me I’d make a brilliant carer so I followed his wishes and hear I am today :) I like to build a bond with each individual I work with, I’m not just a carer but I’m their friend, someone they can trust and rely on, have a laugh with, a shoulder to cry on - I will always be there. Being a carer it’s important to remember you do not only have a duty of care to the individual, but also the family too, I feel the most rewarding part of my job is hearing the family’s appreciation for what you do. I’m 19, however I’m always told that I’m wise beyond my years, I had to grow up fast, I don’t believe that age or how many years experience you have should matter, I am a carer, I know I’m good at my job, I really do care about my residents they’re like my family. Hope to hear from you soon :)
