Support workers needed in New Malden for bank work - we are looking for a committed and flexible support worker for 2 night shifts per week and to be available to cover staff holiday/ school holiday and sickness.
We’re looking for support workers – to work as bank staff with our delightful 7-year-old.
What we need
Our little boy has severe cerebral palsy, which affects him physically and causes learning difficulties. However, he has bags of personality and is a happy soul. He especially enjoys engaging in different sensory and audio-visual activities.
Because our son loves being around people, his support workers have to be a good match for him too. This means you should be a positive, self-motivated and cheerful person.
We’re not asking you to have huge amounts of experience. What’s more important is your commitment to working with a disabled child, your professionalism and your willingness to learn new skills and put them into practice.
If you’re an excellent communicator, you can use your own initiative and are comfortable working within our family home, you are just the sort of person we would like to hear from.
Our support workers also closely interact with and monitor our son during their shift and then record their observations, so you need to be organised and computer literate.
Another important job that we require is taking care of our child’s gastrostomy feeding (through a tube in his stomach), giving him his medication in the right way and on time, doing some of his therapy programme with him (stretching etc) and looking after his personal care. Don’t worry if you haven’t done this before as we’ll provide full training.
There may also be times when we’ll ask you to accompany our son on medical appointments together with another carer. You may also need to run errands such as collecting medication from the chemist.
Everyone offered a job will need to have a DBS Enhanced Disclosure and a full driving licence.
Pay and hours
We pay our support workers well:
£13 per hour on weekdays
£15 per hour at the weekends
The shift hours are:
15:30 - 22:00 – weekdays (term-time cover)
12:00 - 20:00 - weekend (cover)
08:00 - 16:00 and 15:00 - 22:00 – weekday shifts (school holidays)
22:00 - 08:00 – waking night shifts
