| My name is Kara, I am 21 years old, I have been doing competitive cheerleading for 10 years and am about to graduate the social service worker program at durham college. I have 2 years experience working with special needs adults and children. Working with special needs individuals has become something I am truly passionate about. I get this experience from my college placement and my volunteer work for a special needs cheerleading team. The work I do with these individuals has taught me so much about life, love and more than I could ever learn in a textbook. When I told my professor I wanted to work with special needs they were quick to tell me it is difficult working with people who have a "disability". I work with children with autism, behavioural, speech delays non verbal, etc. I been working with the board for two years now, but I’ve been working with kids with special needs for over five years. Special needs caregiver.

| I've worked with both children and adults with special needs for about 7 years in a professional capacity. Spent time working with individuals with behaviour challenges as well.

| Offering in-home and community respite services for family members. Have access to a vehicle. I have worked with a family for many years with their adult (23yrs old) with Prader-Willi syndrome. On a typical day we would go into the community to engage in activities such as watching a movie, going to the mall, the zoo, etc. I would ensure that she would not be tempted to eat unhealthy foods and that she had healthy snacks to consume on our outings. Some evenings I would provide in-home care and assist with healthy meals.I have worked directly with children and adults with ASD in the field of behaviour analysis and ABA/IBI in terms of placement experience and created evidence based programs for the clients to assist in building their skill sets. I have also had a few summers of special needs camp experience in where we would assist people with various special needs in their daily lives navigating the camp and engaging in fun activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, and sports.

| I like helping people with special needs, I have gained experience in long-term home care and Developmental support services providing bed side care and supporting people to be integrated into the society. Over the years I have developed core values that have made me suitable for the care job at all levels and times.

| I started working with special needs kids in a peer program in grade 6, and spent the next 8 years working a diverse range of nannying and caregiver jobs, before moving onto personal support work for kids with disabilities in the foster system. I myself have ADHD, so my interest in working with people and children with disabilities stems from a deep connection and understanding I have for neurodivergent lifestyles.

| I’ve had experience working with individual with ASD and IDD for 6+ years. I’ve been working with individuals with special needs since I was 15, in a wide range of settings (respite, tutoring, summer camps, etc). I am currently only offering respite care in home or in community settings.

| I volunteered in highschool to do phys-ed/gym class with students that had autism, down syndrome, mobility issues, speech delays, and more. During my time babysitting and volunteering I made sure he or she were safe, supported them, had fun with them, kept them active, fed them, and more. I enjoyed this so much and it brings pure joy to my heart! I am also in college studying to be an addiction and mental health worker, as I want to make a positive impact on the world. If i am not familiar with routines or how to use medical machines etc, I am 100% willing to learn :)
