Specialised SEN care during the school holidays!
| I am a one-to-one support to children with SEN in a school and thoroughly enjoy it…so much so that I would love to do it in the holidays too! I've had the privilege of helping children with a range of needs, including ADHD and autism. The most recent being last year, I formed a fantastic bond with a spirited boy whose humor and challenges kept every day exciting. I also supported a child the year before with more severe needs, whose gentle temperament made our time together rewarding. I thrive on challenges and try to bring patience, understanding, and a sense of fun to every interaction.

A few months ago I started working as a teaching assistant for children with additional needs in a secondary school nurture department, and discovered a love for helping young people especially embrace life despite the disadvantages that May have been thrown their way. In this position I provided support for a student with Angelman Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting both physical and mental development. She required support with toileting, walking and various other physical activities, and I also assisted her general learning by preparing appropriate activities for her stage of development. She also experienced short seizures. When she was not in school, or I was requested elsewhere by my oversight, I also assisted with other students in the class, including students with autism, behavioural challenges and a few students with no specific diagnosis. In addition, I have worked in general childcare (both paid and voluntary) for over 5 years, and in that capacity have also occasionally supported other children with autism, Down Syndrome and ADHD. I'm currently looking for temporary positions over the next few weeks until returning to my school position, at which time I will be interested in work outside of school hours.

I feel I would be a great candidate for the role as I am passionate about supporting and caring for indidiuvals to empower them and add to their quality of life. I enjoy caring for people especially children. I worked in a tuition centre for two years helping young children ages 4-11 develop basic maths and English skills, closely working with a boy with autism. I completed a placement of 100 hours in a nursery, which I really enjoyed. The experience of my family being a foster family have shown me the benefits and challenges of working with children. My parents have fostered many children; I have seen how beneficial it is for children to have a stable, caring environment yet I fully appreciate that it is very difficult for children to be separated from their parents. At the moment I am studying a BA is social work. I feel like this job will allow me to gain more experience directly working with service users and looking at the benefits and challenges of working with vulnerable service users. When I have finished my degree I am also very interested in working closely with children with difference needs. I am a caring compassionate person who enjoys working with people and I am confident that I have the resilient nature for the role.
