I was offered a job, to look after an elderly gentleman with advancing dementia with challenging behaviour, I fit in very well with the existing team and although the gentleman didn’t remember me I was more than happy to re-introduce myself everyday! I had worked with this gentleman full time for over a year and supported every challenge he presented until his recent passing, alongside this client I also currently look after a 98year old lady, also with advancing dementia and challenging behaviour. I am knowledgeable in how to treat people with respect and as individuals, to promote their independence, this is a very important aspect for me while providing care. | I have worked as a Community Support Worker for Dorset County Council With the Re-ablement team, providing Domiciliary care and support for service users to gain independence as part of a planned Re-ablement programme in their own homes. This programme runs for 6 weeks enabling us to assess and monitor peoples progress, offering a person centred approach. I found this role very rewarding helping people to achieve their goals in maximising their independence, this included helping with personal care, such as washing/bathing, dressing, meal preparation, assisting with medication, outings out. I also have experience of working in a Nursing/Residential homes, caring for the residents. I also have the National Diploma qualification in Health and Social care.
