| My name is Kirsty, I have just arrived back in England after 2 years in New Zealand, of which 1 year was spent as an Au Pair for a lovely family near Christchurch. I lived in with the family and looked after 3 children whilst the parents we at work or social events. When I started the children were 3, 5 and 7 years old, 2 girls and one boy. I was in charge of getting them ready for school, to and from school/preschool, after school activities, homework tasks, fun activities, household chores and also preparing and cooking meals for the family. Before starting this job, I completed a Child First Aid course. In addition, I babysat for other families in the area including overnight stays. I also volunteered at a local Nursery School when I was younger and volunteered at Upton House to help organise and run events such as the Easter Egg trail. I am an active, happy and motivated person, I love working with kids and I love being able to help busy parents out with childcare and tasks around the house.

They give single mothers a chance to work whilst letting their children have the best experience they can within Gingerbread’s facilities. Throughout my job experiences, this one was the most fulfilling and rewarding, but came with difficult tasks. Even though working with children seems like a bundle of fun and games, there were a great number of policies and procedures that had to be strictly carried out. I cared for children that ranged from the age of 3 to 16 and there were around 20 to 30 children in the after-school club each day. Each child came with an individual record and some with learning difficulties such as: down-syndrome; autism; learning difficulties; ADHD and more. Caring for each child individually, understanding each one of their needs and working with them in a way that would ensure the best comfort for them was mandatory. I created a lot of bonds with the children, ones that will always be remembered.
