I have my diploma in child and youth care and continuing my BA in the fall. I started babysitting a disabled boy when I was 13, became his personal support worker at 15 and worked with him until this past summer when I moved to BC. He can't talk or walk, we worked on puzzles, stories, memory cards, etc. Over the years he learned to wheel his own wheel chair and we practiced swiping skills on an iPad. I also worked in daycare for 5 years mostly in toddlers and preschool but spent time in all rooms. I did my 1st 8-month school placement at Moving Forward, a day program for adults with developmental disorders. After this I was hired for in home care with a client living with Jouberts Syndrome. I did my 2nd 8-month placement through Halton health care and divided my time between the adolescent psychiatric ward, outpatients and in a school program for clients who had been school avoidant due to behavioural issues and anxiety. I am new to BC and hoping to find work in my field,.

Learning, laughter and a pinch of biodegradable glitter
| I have being working with children for 10 years, including those with learning differences, developmental delays, sensory issues, mobility issues and those on the autism spectrum. While volunteering in New Zealand, I worked as a den mother to 14 girls (age 11-17), including those who had behavioural problems, dietary restrictions, severe allergies, and sleep disorders. I spent 6 months volunteering in a special needs classroom. There, I assisted with the daily activities, learning tasks, physical therapy, animal therapy and transport. I am also a girl guides leader, and have worked with many differently abled adult and girl members. I love planning crafts, games and adventures for kids of all ages and ability level.

I was visiting Vancouver from the US for the weekend and booked Elaine to watch my daughter while my husband and I went out with friends on a Saturday night. She was very flexible even though I changed the start time on her a couple of times. Not only did my daughter warm up to her immediately, she followed my instructions perfectly and I came home to a passed out toddler. I would highly recommend her."

Babysitter/Occasional Work/Caregiver
| I have a great passion for caregiving and special needs. I grew up with a younger special needs sister, non-verbal with low-functioning autism. This has given me a lot of experience with special needs children and toddlers. I worked with a family of two providing after-school services for 1 year (2019). I have worked a caregiving job for a family with a son with CP (2022). I changed him, cared for bedtime, fed him, and helped him with his breath training and therapy. I also volunteered at a children's ministry and taught/ watched children aged 2-8. I live in the V6K area and have a full-time job. I am only available for occasional work.
