Adaptive Art is a field that focuses primarily on the students' access to art making despite personal challenges. Students learn to explore a variety of different art materials and styles and are encouraged to trust their own decision-making skills through the guidance of a professional artist. Winter Semester (January-Mid March) "Expressive Impressionism" takes the core techniques of Impressionism but adds a stronger emphasis on conveying emotion and personal interpretation through more dynamic brushwork, and exaggerated color. This course explores Impressionist themes, techniques, and various impressionistic artists. Students choose their own subjects and mediums while implementing the lessons learned in class. The instructor is an expert in chalk pastel, oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Supplies are available for use but it is encouraged for students to bring their own in order to continue working in their own studio between classes. We can provide a recommended supply list for the medium of choice if needed. Various techniques will be demonstrated to help guide students to their project goals.
