Does your child love books and storytelling? This week, we'll be using children's stories to inspire our artwork. With a different book each day, kids will create art that explores the connection between books, storytelling, and art. As they unleash their imagination and create their own unique interpretations and artwork, projects might include a mix of drawing, painting, sculpture, and more! Some of the AWESOME projects for this week include: Pete the Cat inspired mixed media painting Collage like Eric Carle Larger than life Crayon from the Day the Crayons Quilt And so MUCH MORE! This fan favorite class is perfect for the animal lover in your life! Your artist will have fun making art about all kinds of animals and where they live! We'll get inspired as we use a variety of media; sculpture, paint, pastels, pencils, and so much more to explore animals and their habitats! This week will be full of creating and building with materials like cardboard, yarn, sticks, and recycled materials. Your artist will be weaving on looms, sewing stuffies, creating cardboard sculptures, and MORE! It's sure to be a FUN week! This delicious week is back by popular demand! Your artist will create delightful 2D and 3D art projects inspired by some of our favorite sweets: popcorn, gum balls, cupcakes, cookies, and ice cream (just to name a few). It's sure to be a SWEET week! Here at the Studio we're stockpiled with art supplies that give young children the chance to explore a variety of topics and activities. Our art projects will reinforce emerging skills as we work on letters, numbers, fine motor skills, and creative expression. This thoughtful combination is designed to expand and stimulate our youngest student’s minds in a fun, art-rich environment. NOTE: We will follow the Winchester Public School Calendar. There will be no Messy Mushy Preschool Art on days when Winchester Public Schools are closed or on half-days (no class on Feb 19th). While your child is welcome to register for Messy Mushy on multiple days of the week, please note our curriculum is designed to repeat the same set of projects in each class. We offer after school pick up from Neighborhood Coop Nursery School at 12pm for students attending the half day NCNS program.

This class is for beginning - intermediate level students. Beginning students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering and opening to create bowls, cups and plates as well as how to trim and glaze their pieces before the final firing. Intermediate level students will be encouraged to take on projects that expand their skills while exploring individual creativity in clay. Projects may include working with larger pieces, more complex forms, creating sets, and experimenting with surface design. All students will have their own wheel for the entirety of the class period.

Give your child the gift of creativity! Kids ages 9-13 who love art will thrive in this class where they'll engage in all sorts of art, access great tools and materials, and learn from passionate art educators eager to nurture each artist's unique style and talent. Youth Art Studio is a fun, creative space where kids learn to engage as artists, building creative skills that offer lifelong benefits. They'll learn how to approach, organize and plan creative projects; draw ideas and inspiration from the world of art, nature, or their own personal style and imagination; practice with artistic tools and techniques necessary to bring creative projects to life; build and benefit from a creative community that supports, inspires and perseveres as each artists grows in skill and capability. In our purpose-built, creative studio students will mix it up with projects that may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, fiber arts, and more! Each student will leave with a collection of artworks and their own artist-journal documenting processes learned and artistic growth over time. PROJECTS may include: one-of-a-kind Artist Trading Cards (so fun to trade amongst the group!) paper marbling using Suminagashi techniques (fan favorite!) drawing & painting from direct observation (still life & more) bookmaking (folding, glued and hand-sewn bindings) carving a printing block and making multiple prints (kind of like Andy Warhol) collaging with a variety of materials (paper, fabric, string, etc - the sky's the limit here!) needle-felted objects (using cookie cutters, patterns, and imagination) All journals, tools and materials included.

Does your child love all things under the sea? We’ve got you covered in our Underwater Animal Adventures week! From drawing, to painting, to dioramas - we will do a little bit of everything this week as we explore undersea creatures. A few of the AWESOME projects for this week include: Undersea diorama with real rocks and sand! Sea creature luminary, sure to light up your life Cuddly woven sea turtle Adorable mixed media jellyfish And so MUCH MORE! Art show will be outdoors on the Common on Thursday at 11:45am, weather permitting.

This class is open to beginning students who have never used a wheel as well as students with prior wheel throwing experience, looking to advance their skills. First time students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering and pulling walls to create bowls, cups and plates as well as how to trim and glaze pieces before the final firing. Experienced students will take their work to the next level: adding attachments like handles and spouts and carving and sculpting texture. All students will have their own wheel for the entirety of the class period. Course fee includes access to tools, clay, and glazes.

Each day will feature super fun art projects including drawing, painting, sculpture, and more! Rainbow inspired paper pinata Model magic rainbow Beaded sun catcher that will make rainbows in your window Red, orange, green, blue, purple, pink drawings, paintings, and sculptures!
