Broadway Dance Beginnings is three in one style dance class. Combo dance classes teach children the beginning fundamentals of jazz, tap, and ballet. Dancers will gain flexibility, basic technique, and self-confidence through repetitive motor skill, coordination and rhythm practice. This class is geared towards the beginning performer that has participated in a Theatre Summer Camp or just loves to be on stage! This class is for young artists seeking to develop their singing voice while learning songs in a variety of musical theatre genres and styles. Topics to be covered include: developing strength in the belt, mix and head voices; healthy singing habits; music reading and sight-singing; and portraying character through song. The class will primarily focus on ensemble singing with solo work interspersed throughout the group songs. This is a PPC Junior / Level 2 vocal class. Most students take this class for four semesters (2 years). Students will explore improvisational exercises and games that will build a solid foundation in ensemble, scene, and character work. This class will develop your stage presence while strengthening confidence, patience, and communication skills! This is a great class for Summer Campers that found a spark for theater!! This is an excellent way to introduce theatre and dramatic arts to our young performers. No previous experience is required. By choosing familiar stories and songs, students are encouraged to grow and develop using their imagination. Children will explore their creativity through imaginative play and ensemble games. Exercises, songs, and games will focus on acting, storytelling, music, and movement. NO CLASSES OR REHEARSALS: Saturday, March 15th through Saturday, March 22nd

A class to help the student investigate, select, and prepare audition material appropriate to the individual and the audition call. This class includes exercises in handling cold readings and learning to utilize acting techniques to become more adept at auditioning. This class is for students with previous ballet training and solid technique. The intermediate dancer can process more complicated sequences, can execute barre exercises with greater speed and accuracy and is expected to coordinate arm and leg movements smoothly. This is designed for dancers with at least 1-2 years of previous ballet instruction. NO CLASSES OR REHEARSALS: Saturday, March 15th through Saturday, March 22nd

Prerequisite: Departmental approval is required. Jazz 3 will focus on learning proper dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. This is a Senior PPC Level class and designed for students that have taken at least three years of jazz and/or ballet instruction. Foundational steps: Learn basic steps like connection, body movement, foot placement, posture, and core engagement; Transitions: Learn how to move between different positions and steps; Leading and following: Develop comfort and ease in social dancing roles; and Dancing with the music: Explore how to dance in time with the music, with smooth entrances and exits. A partner is not required to attend this class! No outdoor footwear is allowed in the studio. While proper ballroom shoes are not required, socks, mens character shoes, or character heels are suggested. NO CLASSES OR REHEARSALS: Saturday, March 15th through Saturday, March 22nd

Stories have been a primary source of information and entertainment for millenia--and they’re told in so many ways! How stories evolve as they move from a script to a staged production is the focus of this course. We consider how we show-and-tell stories through writing, acting, costumes, and props. We work together to create characters through voice, movement, and music to bring the stories alive on stage. Throughout the course, we collaborate with classmates as we explore a variety of theatrical forms and experiences including improv! This is a technique class that does not result in a production. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap steps in the Broadway style. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. One year minimum of tap experience is required for this class.
