I work within health board, travelling to different hospital sites. I am a HCSW and I ensure the individual’s needs are being met by performing vital signs, assisting with mobilisation, feeding, personal care and ensuring dignity and respect is a priority. I have completed manual handling training, dementia, BLS (basic life support), and violence and aggression. I have completed 1 year of general nurse training so I have completed the fundamentals of care and practice them daily. I am very passionate about maintaining independence, I think it is important to ensure that the individual is living life their way; ensuring they are making their own choices and have plenty of options to choose from. Communication is important, especially if an individual has little or no capacity. Interaction is essential, especially somebody in a vulnerable position. Interaction is an essential step of practising ways to well being. I have been interested in care since 2012 when my Grandmother was diagnosed with Dementia. She was independent and wanted to continue living that way. I cared for her well being, interacting with her, slowing the progression of the illness and reducing depression. She knew who I was until she passed.
