My first experience with childcare comes from my nieces and nephew. They are 9, 6,4 and 1 and I often babysit for them. This might be during the evening when they are already in bed, but usually it's during the day when they are awake. I try to think of fun activities for them to do (e.g. going to the park, playing with play doh, baking, etc.). I love spending as much time with them as possible, meaning I have very strong relationships with all of them.
When I left school I knew I wanted to go into childcare but wasn't sure of how to do so. In the end I decided I wanted to experience being an au pair, so I found a lovely family in Australia and spent six months living with them and looking after their 3 year old daughter, who I grew a bond with instantly. I would take her to the park, catch the bus to town, we would do baking or play outside. I would help her with numbers, letters and lots of arts and crafts to keep her creative side going.
Since then I’ve gained a NVQ3 in Early Years Education and have worked in nurseries for the past three years. I also have paediatric first aid training.
