Winter Semester (January-Mid December) This class is for students who want to try different mediums, are new in the world of art, or who want to build on basic art techniques. All supplies provided as students explore techniques, learn basics of color theory, and try different mediums used to draw and paint. Students are introduced to the elements and principles of art to create full, functional, and stylish compositions. This class will explore the different mediums used in drawing such as charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and pastel along with painting in oil, acrylic, gouache and watercolor. The main focus of this class is to create a portfolio to assist with placement in the art field, work towards scholarships, and program acceptance. Students will also be exposed to art competitions including how to enter, how to present their artwork for competition, and what types of competitions are available. This class is a fusion of traditional art projects and social team-building games; we will be learning how to draw and sketch quickly as we act out characters in a narrative, while also creating maps, portraits, and inventory sheets to fully design and flesh out a character of our own.
