Kids ages 9-13 who love art will thrive in this class where they'll engage in all sorts of art, access great tools and materials, and learn from passionate art educators eager to nurture each artist's unique style and talent. Youth Art Studio is a fun, creative space where kids learn to engage as artists, building creative skills that offer lifelong benefits. They'll learn how to approach, organize and plan creative projects; draw ideas and inspiration from the world of art, nature, or their own personal style and imagination; practice with artistic tools and techniques necessary to bring creative projects to life; build and benefit from a creative community that supports, inspires and perseveres as each artists grows in skill and capability. In our purpose-built, creative studio students will mix it up with projects that may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, fiber arts, and more! Each student will leave with a collection of artworks and their own artist-journal documenting processes learned and artistic growth over time. PROJECTS may include: one-of-a-kind Artist Trading Cards (so fun to trade amongst the group!) paper marbling using Suminagashi techniques (fan favorite!) drawing & painting from direct observation (still life & more) bookmaking (folding, glued and hand-sewn bindings) carving a printing block and making multiple prints (kind of like Andy Warhol) collaging with a variety of materials (paper, fabric, string, etc - the sky's the limit here!) needle-felted objects (using cookie cutters, patterns, and imagination) All journals, tools and materials included.

Here at the Studio we're stockpiled with art supplies that give young children the chance to explore a variety of topics and activities. Our art projects will reinforce emerging skills as we work on letters, numbers, fine motor skills, creative expression, and mindfulness with our yoga and breathing exercises. This thoughtful combination is designed to expand and stimulate our youngest student’s minds in a fun, art-rich environment. NOTE: We will follow the Winchester Public School Calendar. There will be no Messy Mushy Preschool Art on days when Winchester Public Schools are closed or on half-days (no class on Feb 21st). While your child is welcome to register for Messy Mushy on multiple days of the week, please note our curriculum is designed to repeat the same set of projects in each class. We offer after school pick up from Neighborhood Coop Nursery School on Fridays at 12pm for students attending the half day NCNS program.

Let's have some fun on a no school day! Grab some friends and spend the morning making some amazing pottery projects with us! We'll start the morning with some hand-building techniques to make our own one-of-a-kind pottery creations. After we break for a snack, we'll come back and get creative with glazes as we paint ready-made ceramic heart-shaped lidded boxes. Pottery will be ready for pick-up within two weeks, to allow time for us to fire them in the kiln (and just in time to gift to a loved one for Valentine's Day)!

Family Fun: Create Your Own Clay Ocarina! (ages 8+)

Looking for a fun and creative way to spend a Saturday morning with your family? Join us to make your very own ocarina—a small, magical flute with deep roots in ancient musical traditions from Mexico to the Andes. Ocarinas are also a beloved instrument in the Legend of Zelda games! In this hands-on workshop, you and your child will each get to craft your own unique ocarinas out of clay, decorate them with fun designs, and learn how to play simple tunes together. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro, you’ll enjoy the chance to make music, bond, and create lasting memories with your loved ones. NOTES: This is a two-day workshop. You will create your ocarinas during the first session and glaze them during the second session, after a bisque firing in between. Your final work will be ready two weeks later, after the final glaze firing. Your $200 registration includes one child and one adult. Additional tickets may be added for $100/pp We welcome children ages 8+ Children must be accompanied by a paying adult Due to the small size of our pottery studio, this event is only open to paying customers (no onlookers). Our large, private studio is an ideal place for your child and their friends to be led by an artist in creating a unique craft of your choice. The craft usually lasts an hour and depending on the group's age and interest we can also run games to keep the children moving and let them explore our floor to ceiling white board wall. Our teacher will greet the children, run your craft, and clean up. Relax and leave the mess to us so your can enjoy your child's special day! We provide two hours in the studio with a teacher led craft. A full list of party themes is available on our Birthday Party website page. Custom projects are available for a small additional fee of $30. This payment of $150 is a non-refundable deposit to hold your space for the party. Full cost is $395 for up to 10 attendees and $15/additional child to be settled the day of the party.
