We can make mistakes and everything will still turn out great. It is our message to young artists that the way they see the world is important and we never do a child's work for them. THIS WEEK: Welcome to our vibrant "Art from Around the World" camp, designed to immerse young creative minds in the colorful and diverse world of art history and practice! Throughout this week-long adventure, campers will explore and celebrate global cultures by studying some of the most iconic artists from across the globe. Each day, we'll dive into the life and works of different artists like Frida Kahlo, Vincent van Gogh, and Yayoi Kusama, examining their unique contributions to the art world. Campers will not only learn about different artistic styles and historical periods but will also engage in hands-on activities, creating their own pieces using various mediums such as acrylics on canvas, watercolors, and mixed media. This camp is designed to inspire creativity, teach new skills, and encourage campers to express themselves freely and boldly, making it a perfect summer adventure for those interested in art and cultural exploration.

Artist of Color, Black History Month: Alma Thomas. In our upcoming art class, we will be creating pieces inspired by the vibrant and expressive abstract works of Alma Thomas, a pioneering African-American artist celebrated for her unique style and impactful legacy. We'll explore Thomas’s signature use of joyful, mosaic-like patterns and bright, precise brushstrokes, which she derived from her appreciation of nature and the cosmos. Our project will involve each student choosing a natural or celestial theme as their muse and reinterpreting it in Thomas's distinctive style, using bold colors and dynamic compositions. This exercise promises to be not only a creative exploration but also a meaningful homage to one of the first African-American women to receive a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.

In this 1.5 hour class, your child will create more detailed artwork, working independently to express their personality through their creations. Each week, students explore different mediums, including clay, watercolor, mixed media, acrylic, and tempera, helping them discover their artistic passions. Intermediate Art also teaches composition, values, and color theory, allowing students to experiment with various medium techniques. For this week's project, check out the image shown below.

Dreamhouse Design workshop for ages 5+. Join us on Friday for our weekly workshop class where students will create their own projects with materials and instruction from our teachers. For this series, students will design and assemble their very own dream house, creating interior blueprints, experimenting with all colors, and furniture layout. We'll paint walls and apply wallpaper, build our own mini furniture, slides, pools, and jungle gums from an assortment of interesting materials, create mini-artwork, rugs, and peg dolls to play with in their new digs. At the end of the series, each child will go home with a completed house. Pre-registration required. Drop-off. Ages 6+. *Please note that if a class has less than 4 students enrolled 2 days prior to the date of the class, it will be cancelled and you will be offered a choice to reschedule or be refunded.
