This class is designed for students seeking to develop their singing voice while focusing on various styles and composers. Topics to be covered include: developing strength in the belt, mix, and head voices; healthy singing habits; sight reading/sight singing; portraying character through song; singing harmonies in duets and small groups; and singing with confidence. Prerequisite: Departmental approval is required. This class is designed for teens and young with previous theatre experience, who want to continue to build on skills they have learned within our other Adaptive theatre classes. New students will be accepted into this class only with prior director approval to assure that the needs of the student will be met in the best possible environment. We will dive into comedic timing, vocal inflection, character development and motivation, facial expression, body language AS a language, as well as collaborative team building exercises and improvisation. We will touch on comedic timing, body awareness, and expression, creative team building, and recognizing expressions in others as we learn to communicate in character with one another. Stories have been a primary source of information and entertainment for millenia--and they’re told in so many ways! How stories evolve as they move from a script to a staged production is the focus of this course. We consider how we show-and-tell stories through writing, acting, costumes, and props. We work together to create characters through voice, movement, and music to bring the stories alive on stage. Throughout the course, we collaborate with classmates as we explore a variety of theatrical forms and experiences including improv! This is a technique class that does not result in a production. Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap steps in the Broadway style. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. One year minimum of tap experience is required for this class. The partner dance classes will cover a variety of topics, including basic dance elements, movement skills, and social dancing. Foundational steps: Learn basic steps like connection, body movement, foot placement, posture, and core engagement; Transitions: Learn how to move between different positions and steps; Leading and following: Develop comfort and ease in social dancing roles; and Dancing with the music: Explore how to dance in time with the music, with smooth entrances and exits. A partner is not required to attend this class! No outdoor footwear is allowed in the studio. This is an excellent way to introduce theatre and dramatic arts to our young performers. No previous experience is required. By choosing familiar stories and songs, students are encouraged to grow and develop using their imagination. Children will explore their creativity through imaginative play and ensemble games. Exercises, songs, and games will focus on acting, storytelling, music, and movement. NO CLASSES OR REHEARSALS: Saturday, March 15th through Saturday, March 22nd

This class focuses on developing specific skills that are useful for young actors (such as concentration, observation, imagination, and listening), while introducing them to well-known acting techniques through exercises, games, and some beginning scene work. Jazz 2 will focus on learning proper dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. This is a Junior/Senior PPC Level class and designed for students that have taken at least one year of jazz and/or ballet instruction. Beginning teens that are interested in learning jazz dance are welcome to attend. Scene study involves actors taking a specific scene and working on it in front of an acting instructor or a group of peers. The goal is to receive specific constructive feedback that helps the actor improve their craft and their abilities in specific roles. Scene Study is a way for actors to continually work on their craft and discover their strengths and weaknesses. It’s a great way to take all the exercises and techniques they have learned to create characters, connect to the emotions of the part, and fight for what they need and put them into a performance. Scene Study is a very important part of the actor’s process because it makes the actor harness his or her skill set to create a performance. This class is for students with previous ballet training and solid technique. The intermediate dancer can process more complicated sequences, can execute barre exercises with greater speed and accuracy and is expected to coordinate arm and leg movements smoothly. This is designed for dancers with at least 1-2 years of previous ballet instruction. NO CLASSES OR REHEARSALS: Saturday, March 15th through Saturday, March 22nd

This class focuses on the voice and body as the actor's instruments of expression. Classwork may include breathing techniques, posture and alignment, vocal exercises, different movement styles, and more. Students will explore the connections between physical, psychological, and emotional choices and responses, utilizing these skills to help create fully embodied, believable characters.
