Foundational steps: Learn basic steps like connection, body movement, foot placement, posture, and core engagement; Transitions: Learn how to move between different positions and steps; Leading and following: Develop comfort and ease in social dancing roles; and Dancing with the music: Explore how to dance in time with the music, with smooth entrances and exits. A partner is not required to attend this class! No outdoor footwear is allowed in the studio. Topics to be covered include: developing strength in the belt, mix and head voices; healthy singing habits; music reading and sight-singing; and portraying character through song. The class will primarily focus on ensemble singing with solo work interspersed throughout the group songs. This is a PPC Junior / Level 2 vocal class. Most students take this class for four semesters (2 years). This is level one combo class meant for our older beginning students that are interested in learning the basics of jazz and tap dancing. Students will need their own jazz shoes and tap shoes. The class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street, and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. This is a KIDS / Junior PPC Level class and designed for students that have either taken a combo dance class previously, enjoying dancing, or have less than one year of jazz and tap dance instruction. This class focuses on developing specific skills that are useful for young actors (such as concentration, observation, imagination, and listening), while introducing them to well-known acting techniques through exercises, games, and some beginning scene work. A class to help the student investigate, select, and prepare audition material appropriate to the individual and the audition call. This class includes exercises in handling cold readings and learning to utilize acting techniques to become more adept at auditioning. This class focuses on the voice and body as the actor's instruments of expression. Classwork may include breathing techniques, posture and alignment, vocal exercises, different movement styles, and more. Students will explore the connections between physical, psychological, and emotional choices and responses, utilizing these skills to help create fully embodied, believable characters. The focus is on monologue work using contemporary texts from theater, television and film. Core components of the class include the idea of simply working from yourself, “action-based acting” (how one person is trying to change/affect another person in a scene), and how to read a monologue to figure out what your character might want from that situation. We’ve designed the class around very tangible and concrete ideas and techniques, so that those who might be intimidated by the idea of an acting class, or an arts class in general, will feel exceedingly comfortable. It is important to note that while the class is intentionally designed to be as un-intimidating and accessible as possible, students may be asked to work on memorization outside of class.
