She studied dyeing methods, textile life cycle assessments, and ultimately dove into biotextile design. Her work there led her to Make: where she's been sharing her research on kombucha textiles and cosplay. As a fashion designer she's worked professionally in pattern drafting, loungewear design, textile print design, and with private clients for cosplay design and construction. This class is for students that want to alter and repair existing clothing, including shortening hems. Students will bring in 1-2 garments for assessment and will be guided through various methods of repair. Instruction is customized to each student’s skill level. Options can include hand sewing, machine sewing and visible mending techniques. Examples: • shortening a hem • adding an elastic waistband • closing a hole in a seam • reinforcing a weak area • adding a patch • darning a tear • We cannot repair damaged zippers with sewing. Fashion Studies Program - Spring 2025 Semester - Fashion Sewing for Young Designers

In this hands-on course, young designers will learn essential sewing and garment construction skills, from sketching and pattern modification to garment assembly and adjusting fit. Students will work on creating one to two finished garments of their own design and build a small portfolio of seam and hem samples. This course will focus on patterning for fashion design. We will cover the basic principles of apparel development from patterning to construction. This includes flat patterning, sewing techniques, garment assembly, and adjusting for perfect fit. Students will be introduced to the innovative problem solving required to take a two dimensional form and fit a three dimensional figure.
