Autism and additional needs mentor and cognitive support person for people of all ages.
|
Hi! I am a young woman who has recently settled in Galashiels with my fiance. I have a lifetime of experience with supporting people with additional needs such as Autism and Tourettes, and am formally diagnosed myself.
I volunteer with the Borders Additional Needs Group and have found my calling in being a supportive figure to young people with additional needs, down syndrome, mutism and much more, as well as to parents who often have many unanswered questions.
I want to pursue this form of care as my full time career, and to offer my support to the wider community of the Borders.
No two people on the spectrum are the same, and I believe everyone needs individual attention and understanding. I put 100% into communication, making sure that people feel heard, respected and empowered.
Also note that I am learning sign, and will eagerly develop my skills if called to work with someone who uses BSL sign!
