Volunteering for 2 years within a special needs school and residence allowed me to gain valuable knowledge and confidence working with special needs children. 2012- I became a childcare officer employed within St Annes Special school and residence. I work with children with severe special needs such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). I work within a team and independently. I am responsible to aid the children with personal hygiene and feeding. I work within the community, planning enjoyable/educational trips. Gaining vital knowledge from training utilising what I have learnt into practice, such as; Safeguarding children, Team Teach, and Sign Language, to mention a few. I lead activities and create special rooms for the children to play in, e. G a Harry Potter themed adventure room. I also work on Individual Educational Plans within the school. I am a passionate hard working individual who is focused and reliable. I am fascinated with autism and how heroic these children are to endure everyday life with autism. My aim is to help in any way possible children with special needs, and create positive opportunities showing they have a role in society.
