I have had many years of childcare experience, first beginning when I was 18 - 19 years old at a day nursery. Here, I began completing a childcare qualification alongside learning to care for children. I was a routine 'floater' for a while, helping out where was needed, which meant I had a lot of experience working with young babies, toddlers, infants and also the breakfast and after school clubs which the nursery held. I then moved onto a permanent place working with the 2 - 3 year olds where I had my own 'key children' and undertook assessments on them to adhere to the EYFS framework. I then went on to go back to college to study health and social care at level 3, where I built upon my theory knowledge in child development. I also undertook a 3 month placement at a sure start centre where I helped out at mother and baby groups, and primarily helped the workers look after the children within the nursery. I am now at university studying social work where I am further increasing my knowledge on social issues, including child development, safeguarding, attachment and legal theories. Alongside my first year I gained a placement within a visually impaired charity which helped my language, care and communication skills greatly.
