I am a 56 year old ex-RN guy who broke his neck some 27 years ago (silly thing to do, I know). As a result, I zip around my home in a power chair (visitors beware – keep those toes out of the way). Getting myself up and dressed in the morning can be a real struggle. For well over a decade, a very nice helper has come around to assist me. She is an 84 year-old diabetic who is blind in one eye with swollen hands and extremely painful knees. Yes – she was helping me! Unfortunately, my helper feels she can carry on no longer and sadly, I have to try to replace her. The morning involves making me a cup of tea, please, and washing up a couple of dishes, etc. A shower chair is then put by my bed which I can transfer onto. I then push myself to my shower area, where I take care of myself entirely. I need help to dry my feet only (the darn things are on the end of my legs – I can't reach them) and then help dressing. Everything is done in a very discrete manner. NO LIFTING and NO SPECIAL SKILLS are needed. All that is required is a friendly, easy going outlook. Ideally, I would be looking for help on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Or, for example, a Tuesday, Thursday and Sat or Sunday if that was better for you. The earliest I would need you to start is 7 AM (occasional part-time work) but most of the time 8 AM to 8.30 AM would be ideal. The whole thing takes about 1 hour and is pretty easy all round. Flexibility is my middle name so if there were times when any of the above wasn't convenient, we could make temporary changes, as I would ask you to do if possible. Proximity may be important.
