We live in St Donats near Llantwit Major and need help with my mother's care whenever her normal carers take holiday. We are looking for a flexible, reliable, experienced carer to help us out. Duties include wake up, mobilising, dressing, simple breakfast+ lunch prep, bathroom care + occasional outdoor trips. My mum is a cheerful lady and fun to be with. She is not independently mobile and needs help. She has a Z frame and wheelchair. From 27 Aug-17 Sept 2019 there will be up to 122 hours available. Throughout the year there will be up to 274 holiday hours to cover with dates fixed well in advance. Additionally, we hope to find someone local who could be contacted to see if they would be available to help in occasional emergency situations that sometimes arise when both regular carers are unavailable at the same time. To assist a C5/C6 Spinally Injured man to shower; dress and seat in wheelchair in his own home. An overhead electric ceiling hoist; a roll-in shower room, and shower chair is used. HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT Hours of employment will be 1-3 mornings per week, and 2 lunch times. To be discussed. Weekdays & Weekends 7:45 to 9.15 am Weekdays lunch time 11.30am – 1.00pm I need certain levels of support to enable my wife and I to be reasonably independent. You will be part of a team of 2-3 carers that attend individually each day; and as such may be asked to provide relief when other carers require time off. My nuclei of carers have been with me for a number of years, and I hope that we too, can develop a similar relationship. Punctuality is important to me, and so you must ensure that you arrive at the agreed times. MAIN DUTIES The tasks will consist of: - Getting me out of bed using the hoist and placing me on the shower chair, General washing/showering and drying, paying particular attention to pressure areas Placing in wheelchair Tidying bed and shower/bedroom after use There will also be a requirement to assist my wife with light houeskeeping. YOUR QUALITIES You will have/be:- A caring & compassionate attitude An understanding of the importance of your role Common sense Punctual to the agreed times. A sense of humour, and be able to accept my warped sense of humour To be pleasant, cheerful & mature in attitude, (age immaterial – but no faces like a ripped dap please) To be patient; flexible, and understanding in providing support To be willing to help my wife by helping me A willingness to be a supporter Discretion and a desire to maintain confidentiality Not be overbearing or patronising Previous experience is not essential, but some past caring/nursing preferred (THE SMALL PRINT). You will be doing one of the most important jobs in the community, by supporting my wife & I to live as normal a life as possible. You will receive:- 1. Generous pay, £8.00/hr weekdays; £10/hr weekends. With 5.6 weeks annual paid holiday. Additionally, where funds allow, I hope to make ad-hoc bonus payments to reflect flexibility; commitment; productivity etc. 2. The chance to work with a very nice man; that would be me then.
