Posting a job vs. Picking a Provider

Being new to Care.com, I've yet to post a position, preferring to just contact likely providers. So far that's been a bust. Do most of you just post the position or scan the available profiles that meet your needs.? Thanks!

Ha! I feel your pain. I haven't posted a job as I don't want just anybody to apply, I want to select the candidates myself. So far I have contacted, I believe, 27 and had no luck. Most don't even reply to the messages and the few that do, say they can't. It makes me wonder if care.com is worth at all. Some candidates haven't logged in in months. Why do they even bother to put up a profile and make us waste our time? Some that said that they already got another job keep their profiles active and some even keep on logging in, so were they lying when they said they already got a job? I wonder if they get charged for posting and if they don't, they should, to help us separate real interested candidates from people who appear to have nothing better to do.

I do both. After I post the position I scan profiles to see if I like anyone. I usually scan profiles of people who have only logged in within a week or 2 because I feel like those people are most likely actively looking for work. I've hired 3 separate "nannies" through Care.com and while 2 turned out to be pretty bad, the one I have now is a rock star. Two of the nannies had other positions while still working so they could technically have said they took another position. Some also have full time nanny/babysitter jobs but are looking for work outside those hours to make extra money. I ABSOLUTELY think Care.com is worth the service though, you may have to weed people out but imagine the responses you'd get had you placed an ad (or searched) for sitters on Craigslist or in the paper???

I've had excellent luck posting positions. I get a lot of replies I don't think are right for the position, yes; but I also have always received several which were great for it, and twice I've hired from this site -- once for babysitting, once for pet care. Both turned out to be absolutely super.
I find that I have much *less* success when I don't post an ad, but search profiles and contact people myself. I might find a higher percentage of people *I* like that way, but they don't generally want my particular job, and I waste a lot of time doing it. If I post the ad myself, then I know that everyone who replies is interested in the specific job I'm offering -- and only at that stage do I look through those people's profiles, and determine which of them I want to contact.

I agree with Nora. I get most of my sitters by posting a job. And I won't email some who hasn't been around in the last week to month. I have had great success here and other similar sites finding sitters.

Paul, I posted a job and got so many applicants that I had to close it after 3 or 4 days. I thought that candidates with such profiles wouldn't consider the job, for one reason or another, due to distance or age for instance, but as it turns out - I can't predict what candidates want. So - go ahead and post your job!

Thanks, Victor & the others who replied. After reading the first few replies, I went ahead and posted a position. I had a final interview today & believe I have selected the right candidate. Thanks for all the help!

holy prophet is one spiritual man i would forever give regards to, he brought my husband back to me after my old friend tried to blackmail me to take my husband and made him divorce me with wrong accusation. But this holy prophet did a prayer that resolved issues with my husband and push the other lady far away from him. I am happy to have my husband back, this prophet is great. his email is holyprophet8@gmail.com, he really surprised me.
