Persian Cat with Allergies -- Help

We have a Persian cat with allergies. We've tried everything, but nothing seems to help. We've experimented with different foods. One of the hypoallergenic brands does alleviate the symptoms somewhat, but not completely. The main symptoms are runny eyes (more than is usual for a Persian) and continuous scratching, especially around the ears. When her allergies are very bad, she will scratch until she bleeds. We've tried cortizone pills and shots. These do provide temporary relief, but we worry about keeping her on cortizone long-term. A vet has seen her and conducted a number of tests (skin cell samples) to see if these are parasites or something on her skin. The tests came back negative. Our conclusion is that she is allergic to something -- but we have not determined exactly what. Has anyone else experienced a situation like this? Any ideas? Thanks!!

Dave, did you have any luck in treating your cat for her allergies? I am assuming that the Vet ruled out ear mites in her tests. As far as ruuny eyes, it could be a feline cold/flu thing. Our long-haired cat contracted something while being boarded at the vet. I will go back and look to see what it was diagnosed as, but I remembering him never being completely over it. It would flare up for awhile, and then go into remission. He was taking minscule doses of Benedryl, too.

Hi Rhonda, Have you tried a HEPA air filter? They are reasonably priced on ebay. I plugged one in for my darling Savannah mix, Dexter just today. I feel like he is getting tons of relief and it makes my heart glad. I hope you will keep us posted on your little sweetheart.
