I became an extended family caregiver in 2006. My grandmother had a stroke & after her recovery, had a list of medical issues. My earliest memories of childhood involve my grandfather administering insulin shots & medication for my grandmother, so when I was told by the medical staff at the hospital she would need around the clock care, I said to myself this would be a piece of cake. My grandmother's medical issues were diabetes, arthritis, stroke and Alzheimer's. One year after she had become stabilized with Alzheimer's, she broke her hip getting out of the bed. Following her hip replacement, she started to have silent seizures, heart attacks and in 2010 she had an amputation of the leg. I had to become very equipped & knowledgeable. The entire time I was providing care for my grandmother, mentally challenged uncle & both siblings, I was a caregiver. I have maintained an active guardianship
