Professionally, I signed up through IHSS to be a part time caregiver when I was attending college. I did recently go through IHSS once again to become a caregiver. Non-professionally, my dad fell ill during Covid and was hospitalized for 3 months. After being released he required a lot of medication, diaper changes, help bathing, and meal preparation as well as transportation. His whole life turned upside down, it was a complete turn of events from how he used to live. He was independent and able to care for himself, but being intubated affected his brain capabilities on remembering basic memorization skills and life skills. My dad required transportation to doctor appointments and extensive care at home. Which is the reason why I wanted to go back into child care or senior care. It's given me an appreciation of life itself.
