About Melanie

I developed an interest in childcare at 12 when my family joined a church. To earn some pocket money, I looked after kids during weekend retreats and events. Although I left the church at 16, my passion for working with children remained strong. Since September, I started working as after-school staff at a private school in Bed-Stuy, caring for children ages 2-5. My responsibilities include facilitating engaging activities, mitigating conflicts, serving snacks, and maintaining hygiene through diaper changes and cleaning. I ensure the play areas are tidy, wipe down tables before and after snack time, and sweep up as needed. In addition to supervising playtime for safety, I actively engage with the children to build trust. Currently, I serve as an assistant camp counselor for the 2-3-year-old class and will soon take on a leadership role. I am passionate about fostering independence, promoting free play, no screen time, and advocating for parents.
