About Lonnie

Hello, my name is Lonnie! I have been working with children ages 0-12 for eight years. Summer camps are my background, but I am now just about to begin my fifth year as an infant and toddler teacher at a small childcare community here in Portland. My childcare practices are heavily inspired by Magda Gerber (RIE), Janet Lansbury, and Maria Montessori. The fundamental tenet of my work is ensuring to treat each child, starting in infancy, as a unique and whole individual worthy of respect, with an emphasis on care and play as core aspects of a young child's life and learning. I am infant/adult CPR and first aid certified, safe sleep certified, have a food handler's card, and maintain ongoing education in childhood development throughout each year. When I'm not spending time caring for children, I can be found sipping coffee and reading outside, listening to a new podcast, or watching a movie with friends at the Hollywood Theatre.
