About Diane

Caring for children has always been a part of my life. My babysitting career started at the age of 10. Since then, I've been a speech therapist in the schools; coordinated MSCR after school clubs; raised three children (2 in graduate school and one with a BS and working); and, most recently, taught reading, writing, spelling and social studies to gifted first grade students. Inspiring a love of books and learning is my passion. I find teachable moments in almost every activity. Utilizing my classroom training in social/emotional development and behavior management, I model what I expect, set clear boundaries, and calmly redirect or discuss behavior depending on a child's developmental level. I facilitate safe exploration through play, and allow children to make mistakes and feel frustration so that they develop problem solving skills. I'm also always there for a hug, an encouraging word, a silly dance or just to listen.
