I have 7 years of 24/7 Live in Caregiver experience for an elderly patient with Alzheimer's/Vascular Dementia. In addition to providing all daily needs, from getting out of and into bed, bathing, cooking, cleaning, laundry, organizing and maintaining physical activity, I also provided mental stimulation through music and singing. Singing songs, if the patient has the desire, seems to stimulate their memories. Old movies from the period they grew up in also seems to help memory as they recognize the actors that younger people don't know. I like a happy environment and try to encourage happy thoughts, feelings and activities for the loved one.
