OT student looking for work in childcare (special needs or otherwise)
|
Currently studying occupational therapy, I have spent the past 3 summers working with and slowly falling in love with some of the most wonderful kids the world has to offer, all of whom have some form of special needs (autism, down syndrome, CP, intellectual disability, ADHD, and far more). My most recent summer was spent swimming and adventuring with Maggie, a 6 year old girl with autism who I miss immensely and whose mom still sends me pictures and updates on her language (which is very limited but always encouraged!) since we both miss our time together.
Before that, I:
- was an au pair for two neurotypical kids in Wellington, New Zealand for 9 months
- taught swimming lessons to neurotypical kids and kids with special needs for 6 months
- worked at an Easter Seals summer camp for kids and adults with disabilities for 2 summers (2016, 2017)
- worked at a YMCA summer camp for 2 years
- have 10 years of intermittent babysitting experience
I love to spend time with kids and have fun with them, but also love to help out and try new educational things with them (with Maggie, I worked on potty training her and learning certain words and numbers associated with the play we were doing).
