I am a student who is currently wanting to peruse a career in special education. I have worked at a summer camp in New York in the USA for the past two summers. The camp was a special needs camp that catered for people aged 6 to 60 with different types of special needs. My first year I worked with a group of ladies who all were on the spectrum. My second year I was a unit co ordinator for the girl unit at my camp. This meant I was in charge of over 20 staff and had the over all say over the 40 campers in my unit. I had to acknowledge myself with each of their diagnosis as each is very different and also had to learn different behavioural techniques which worked for each individual camper. I am first aid trained which means I know how to assist when a seizure may occur. I am also CPI trained and as I mentioned above have learned many different behavioural techniques that may be used.
