Consistency and Vigilance

Hi, my name is Imogen and I am in my final year at the University of Exeter studying Philosophy.
Philosophy is such a diverse subject; it is something that leaves you wanting to learn more. Philosophy embodies everything that we know and learn about the world, from the nature of existence, faith, and reason. These are the reasons why I chose to study it further.
Having not left school not long ago I can understand the stress school exams can cause. The standard form of university exams are not drastically different when it comes to philosophy, they are both essay based. They both require an understanding of the examined topic, a depth of analysis as well as a strong demonstration of wider reading.
During my initial assessment I will; establish the students’ strengths and weaknesses in the tutored subject, I will ask their short-term and long-term goals are for the tutored sessions, I will ask them how they normally revise - we will discuss if they are willing to try new techniques.
There is great value with individual tutoring because there is total control over the speed of progression and what we decide to focus on.
Revision techniques vary, visual methods can be very beneficial, such as mind maps or flow charts.
