Hi my name is Sophie. I am an experienced SEN/SEND nanny based in the North West
| From January 2023, I worked full time as a carer to a 8 year old boy with multiple disabilities. His profile includes severe autism (non speaking), ADHD, ARFID and a rare genetic variation of Noonan syndrome. He also has Asthma and partial hearing loss. I would often attend various appointments with him when parents were not available. This child was specially educated and needed full time care and supervision. We would communicate using Makaton, PECs and an AAC device. My role here included, taking the child out on day trips, organising appointments and admin for the child and finding activities, exhibitions and extra curricular clubs which were suitable for his needs all across London. In addition I would plan and carry out at home learning activities which were specifically catered to his needs and interests. For example, this child was highly motivated by music, video and movement. I found a way to practice phonics with him using letters stuck onto piano keys and read to him using videos to aid his motivation. The child struggled with motivation for both play and learning, alongside having a very short attention span so these activities would be structured into short bursts.
