I have worked with children with a range of abilities and needs, primarily providing care in their home but I have also worked in mainstream schools, specialist schools, holiday clubs and nurseries. I have a broad scope of additional training, including de-escalation and physical intervention, managing challenging behavior, communication in sign language, safeguarding and trauma. In my position as a nanny my responsibilities included all things related to the care, wellbeing and education of my charge. I supported the child’s development through activities, classes, and playdates. I supported the child in developing their independence in self-care tasks, such as getting dressed and washing. I also scheduled and attended therapies (OT etc.) and medical appointments including blood tests, vaccinations and dentist. I managed all aspects of their care; signposting to appropriate therapies and assessments, liaising directly with therapists to discuss their needs, supporting the implementation of techniques within the home.

I used to care full time for a lovely lady who had epilepsy, cerebral palsy psychotic tendencies and minimal speech we used to have the best time. I would assist her with her personal care and dressing at the start of the day I would drive her (using my car) to all different groups we had found and become part of that was all run for adults with disabilities. We would go for lunch some days and Costa on others and although her speech was minimal we had and amazing understanding of each other’s needs and feeling. It was a truest rewarding and wonderful time in my left. Unfortunately my home circumstances changed and I moved so sadly this friendship/job came to and end.
