I began my career by teaching English as a foreign language to children and adults in Spain in 2018. I really enjoyed this position; seeing the same groups every week, watching their progress, laughing each class, seeing the new stationery they were so excited to show me. It was very rewarding to see their improvements and how my hard work with thought-out lesson planning, marking exams/homework and attention to detail paid off. I also learned a great deal about classroom management and how to interact with children; my patience developed alongside empathy and understanding. I enjoyed the younger groups more, finding a good balance between fun and productivity each class. Learning how to manage a classroom of extremely energetic children who don’t speak your language was an interesting challenge I loved, although I’m really excited to be able to communicate more fully with children in Brighton.
