I have been working with children with special needs, those with autism in particular, for the past ten years. I work in a primary school (Mulberry Primary School) specifically designed to care for autistic children, however I also have experience working in a mainstream school setting on a one to one basis with children who have special needs. I especially enjoy working one to one with children as it allows me to build a relationship of trust with the child, whereby the child feels comfortable around me and I am able to learn which care techniques are best suited to them. I also enjoy working in integrated groups with the children as this allows me to conduct activities to help their development and social integration. I am experienced in developing various methods to help the children cope, such as the use of visual aids. The main reason as to why I am passionate about my work is that I get to meet bright, intelligent children and help their development, trying to make their lives as fulfilled as possible.
