I have worked with a variety of children from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs and requirements. I understand that no two children are the same, from this experience I learnt that respect is paramount when working with others, regardless of age or ability. I grew up with an autistic brother and a father with medical conditions. My parents worked in the care/education sector with additional needs children and young people. Growing up with this open-minded and casual perspective to diversity allowed me to view people beyond their label or any preconceptions from a young age. For this I am so grateful. I have cared for multiple children with additional support needs. Most significantly ASD. I also have experience nannying children with a variety of verbal and communicative abilities. What I have gained from this experience, is an understanding of the importance of person-centered care when working with any child. No two people are the same, so every person deserves to be heard and catered to.
