I am currently working as an Assistant Headteacher in a school for children with additional needs. I completed my Bachelors degree in Primary Education in 2015 and wanted to gain more experience working with children with special needs so became a Teaching Assistant in a school for children with Profound and a multiple learning disabilities. I worked at this school for a year before getting a teaching job in a mainstream primary school. After teaching mainstream for 12 months, I moved to a school in Manchester for children aged 4-19 who have a diagnosis of Autism. I taught at that school for 3 years, becoming the Assistant Headteacher in my 3rd year and in September 2020 took the job of Assistant Headteacher at a new Special primary school in Manchester. Having built relationships with so many parents of the children I work with, I understand how important it is for children to have respite but also how imperative it is for parents’ health and well-being, and I would love to help a family who needs it.
