I currently work as a Learning Support Assistant at a local Plymouth secondary school supporting a year 8 pupil with ASC/SEMH/ADHD in developing their social/emotional literacy and accessing the curriculum. I have been working with SEN young people for the last 10 years (particularly those on the Autistic Spectrum) which has given me significant insight into their challenges and effective strategies to support them.
My previous role was as a Communications Assistant working at the Swan Centre situated in Brighton Aldridge Community Academy. The Swan Centre is a specialist Centre based in a mainstream secondary academy. My role involved supporting students from Year 7 -11 who have an EHCP with the priority need of Communication & Interaction/ Cognition & learning Speech, Language Learning band Communication needs- predominantly Autism.A key aspect of the role was the ability to build a high quality working relationship with the student based on mutual respect and specifically tailored to their individual needs.
