I have worked with a 21 year old who has cerebral palsy and other disabilities for just under a year. Because of his severe disabilities I have learnt about hoisting, I have learnt quite a lot of makaton, and I will soon be going on a refresher first aid course, a hoisting course and a medicine course. I have become a tutor for this man as well. We do some very basic spellings (which he spells out of an alphabet board), learning to sign colours, and also things like jigsaws and colouring in so we are engaging his brain and making him use his arms. I absolutely love my job here, but as it’s only part time, I am looking for another part time job.
