I first became involved in special needs care when I worked at a summer camp in New York for people with developmental disabilities. In 2011, I worked with adults between the ages of 20 and 60 with Down's syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and developmental delays. In 2012, I worked mainly with young children with autism and teenagers with mobility problems and cerebral palsy. I was responsible for providing personal care and support to take part in various activities, as well as following behaviour plans and managing challenging behaviour. I have also worked as a support worker in a residential home for adults with learning disabilities, autism and Down's syndrome. I provided residents with support in all areas of daily living (personal care, household chores, shopping), as well as providing support to access the local community. I have completed a Masters in Applied Behaviour Analysis and I am working as an ABA therapist for children with autism. I am passionate about promoting independence for people with special needs and I love what I do. I am currently studying to become a Learning Disability nurse and I look forward to developing clinical skills and expertise in caring for people with complex needs.
