My name is Mariana, I am 20 years old and I come from Portugal. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Comparative Literature at SOAS University of London. I am looking for a part-time job involving pets, so that hopefully I'll miss mine less. Previously, I volunteered at the association where my family adopted dogs from (in my hometown of Barcelos, Braga) and at a more well-known Lisbon-based dog shelter called União Zoófila. Throughout my life, I have had more than ten dogs. I have experience both with young and old dogs and have dealt with medical conditions like cancer, parvovirus, hip dysplasia, sebaceous cysts and psychological trauma. Gradually, all of them were nursed back to health and socialized with other dogs, as well as with people. Additionally, we have had multiple specimens of birds and fish. I also grew up with chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigs, cows, a Garrano mare and other dogs at my grandparents’ house. I love all kinds of non-human animals, which is one of the reasons why I am vegan. I am telling you this because I want you to understand that I do not see myself as superior to pets. I am looking for a symbiotic relationship in which both parties have something to gain.
