I have experience living with a dog and cats at my former rental places as well as taking care of owners' moggies - with affection when the owners were away on holidays. I've managed to condition 1 cat friend from hissing to newcomers to affectionately purring and all the other imaginable body gestures. My great home experience was... 6 cats in one house! Cat(s) makes me feel at home even when I am on the road wandering. When I 'hello', cats would make a move - 'greet' (rub) & 'meow' back - for some reason. But it does depend on the personalities. I sometimes prepare spare cat biscuits in my bag to make new stranger cat friends on the road.
