As a domestic assistant my role would be to maintain was to make sure toilets wards and patient access way kept hygienic aswel as making patients beds cleaning toilets and making sure the hospital as a whole was clean upto standards skills I learnt was use of ppe which is using the correct equipment before entering a area for the safety of yourself and patients in your care food safety was essential in the role as you would sometimes handle food and need to learn codes of practice eg food hygiene aswel as waste management waste management colour coding green yellow red and blue all colours are used for different types of waste and can only be the item for the colour eg bottles glass etc the role isn’t just about cleaning though as it is about care and compassion for patients in your care aswel as having excellent communication skills aswel as the ability to follow instructions carefully and throughly as it is a hospital which is a high risk area all instructions given must be followed carefully I have also lived with my nan where I would help her with her cooking cleaning eg toilets windows skirting boards floor mopping brushing dusting walked her dogs bathed and fed
