About Susan

57 years old Speaks English
I have worked with the elderly for over 13 years. I began my career as a respite carer for the elderly in London. I would care for the elderly in their own homes, to give their carer a break. From there, I went on to become an Assistant Manager in two residential homes for people with various types of dementia. It was whilst working in the care homes that I gained my qualifications and superb experience. Following this, I worked as a Rehab Officer for the hearing impaired. I was employed by Social Services for this role and worked very closely with the NHS. I have achieved NVQ 3 in Care and D32 & D33 NVQ Assessor . I also have a Dementia Care Mapping qualification which I studied at Bradford University. I have experience as a Rehabilitation Officer for the Hearing Impaired. I support people through the process of getting a hearing aid. I am able to assess hearing aid users and non hearing aid users for pieces of equipment which will assist them in hearing the doorbell, telephone, TV and smoke alarms. Feel free to contact me.

Spent a very long time interviewing this lady on the phone. Although I appreciate that some may wish to learn of a potential support worker/carer giver to state they have the same condition as the client in hope of empathy I found it rather depressing. I feel that the service providers health should not in anyway concern the client with detailed experiences. I hung up feeling very depressed especially as she has a mild version of the condition ME and I have it severely. She said " there is no cure. You cant do anything about it. You just have to get on with it!" not very positive and quite judgemental to myself who is isolated with the condition. I've had the condition 16 years. Empathy would be "I do have a slight understanding of what you are going through and how challenging and frustrating it is for you but you are doing so well to have it so long. I have it mildly and I am living a normal life" we didn't proceed because she then told me she wanted cash in hand!
