I am the eldest of 6 siblings, raised by our grandparents. When i left school, I got a job in a barber shop/hairdressers, sweeping up, making tea, washing hair etc. It wasn't long before I was stood behind my own chair cutting hair. I became a fully qualified barber, trained by a master barber. City and guilds qualification. I was a self employed barber for 27 years. In 2019 when Covid hit, I had to close my shop due to the lock down. I could not sit and do nothing, I needed to help. All the elderly who were isolated, the care homes that needed staff, people needing shopping etc. I signed straight up with a nursing agency and began training hard and educating myself. During this time, I was also caring for a close family member, and often working 7 nights a week. I guess you could say I was learning on the job. I have now qualified NVQ level 3 HSC First aid life saver Manual handling Fire safety Health and safety in the work place Level 2 food hygiene Level 2 COSHH I have also completed courses in Mental health awareness Autism awareness Dementia care Positive behaviour support Pressure sores (skin integrity) Oral health hygiene Catheter care Colostomy care Pegs
