My passion for care is evident because of the way I work and interact with people, this started when I was in secondary school when I did work experience, I volunteered to work in care home for two weeks which I really enjoyed, but that was not enough to make me pursue and work in the Health Care sector. I would say that my passion came from looking after my mum who had stroke for four years, looking after her was a bittersweet experience, I had to take care of her business, do the cooking, shopping, doing personal care ( cleaning, washing and dressing etc), take on house chores and encouraging her every step of the way. I have also worked in several different care homes and supported living accommodations for vulnerable young adults, this is what I have experience in: - personal care - assisting with medications - record keeping - changing catheters and colostomy bags - communicating with people that have dementia and alzheimers. - hoisting - feeding - organising activities Working with care agencies really helped me get the experience I needed, it has been hard but also rewarding, I genuinely love taking care of people, they don’t have to be sick for me to take care of them.
