Hello, Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I became a young carer at the age of 15 to help my grandmother with my grandad who was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. It was from then I decided I wanted to help people who needed that little extra support. I have worked within the care sector for 6 years now. I have worked within special needs and residential care. As well as this I have worked with residents with dementia. I always say to my residents/family members I treat the residents who are in my care as if they was my own grand parents. Because I understand how being under the care of someone you do not know can be rather challenging for that individual as well as embarrassing for them. I am very much one for promoting independence. I have seen alot over the years within working in care homes where the independence of the service user is taken away from them. This is why I always encourage individuals to do as much as they can. Unless they are physically unable to do it or is within the care plan that they need assistance.
